Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:29-31
Tomorrow, it will be seven years since Mom made it to her eternal home.
7 years without her smile.
84 months of a world without her generous spirit that touched everyone she met.
364 weeks without hearing her sing hymns.
2556 days without Gigi’s style of baking, card playing, and crafting.
3,679,200 minutes without the woman who gave me life.
The week of the anniversary of her death is always challenging. I miss her every day, but this week, even seven years later, it still leaves me wishing for more time.
The world lost a precious light seven years ago. It is the only time Mom left without a flurry of hugs, kisses, and I love you’s. Her greatest joy was her family. From her children to grandchildren to the greats, the nieces and the nephews; these are the people she lived for, the ones she cherished so much.
My Mom didn’t know the word quit. Her perseverance is a trait I carry with great pride. Whatever life threw at her, she matched with faith, grit, and determination. Her last month on earth, she did the body of iron, a health challenge at her YMCA. In typical Mom fashion, she exceeded all the goals and couldn’t tell the story without her fun dance; I did it, I did it. She taught me all about the sparkle of life. And you all know how I love that!
Mom loved life and lived it to the fullest. She simply didn’t know any other way to be. Even on her lowest days, and there were many, she found ways to reach others who needed some Gigi love. Caring for others with her amazing, generous heart was the second biggest joy in her life. And she did it often, and she did it well.
When money was tight, she could make magic out of nothing.
When money was in abundance, she could make magic out of anything.
She told me once she had lived with plenty and had lived in want. Living with plenty was easier, but living in want offered more opportunity.
Mom’s faith was her guiding compass, always bringing her back to Jesus. Her time on earth was filled with the light of Jesus, and she knew how to share that light well. Today, she is singing with her Savior, finally home in a world without pain or tears.
